Supporting overseas nationals to transfer their skills to UK self-employment

Iryna Tulovska arrived in the UK on July 4, 2022. With a background as a practising professional holding a degree in Psychology and Gestalt Psychotherapy, she was keen to offer well-being and psychological support to refugees in England.

However, her first challenge was securing recognition for her qualifications, a challenge she overcame through hard work, resulting in her membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

In November 2023, Iryna joined our Employment for Overseas Nationals (EON) support for self-employment programme, where she transformed her plans into reality by registering as a self-employed psychotherapist and counsellor.

Iryna said: “It was exactly what I needed: detailed and comprehensive tutoring about the peculiarities of launching and doing
business in the UK.

“I am now armed with the necessary knowledge, a vision, a detailed business plan, and most importantly, I am aware of the key areas for my development. There is no place like home; however, you never know what life may bring, and sometimes the challenge is to create a sense of home within your soul.”

She is now developing a marketing plan to expand her clientele while collaborating professionally and as a volunteer with local community groups.
